Spring is the best season of the year for those who look out their windows and love to go out of the house to have some fun. It’s also one of the best times to go about the house and check what needs to be done to keep it in tiptop shape for when different weather conditions occur.
That said, we’ve prepared a spring checklist for homeowners who want to make sure their roof stays in great shape and is capable of preventing water from leaking in and protecting those who take shelter under it.
Spring Roofing Checklist
Gutters and Downspouts
Check your gutters to see if there’s dirt and debris that needs to be removed. These can clog the gutters and cause water to pool and can cause problems to the roof, siding and the home’s foundation. Check the downspouts if they are clogged using a water hose. Be careful to check where the water that flows through it goes.
- Roofing Materials
Winter can cause a lot of problems to your roofing, especially if your attic is not properly ventilated. Check if there are damages to your roofing material such as cracks, tears or missing shingles. Inspect areas around roofing protrusions such as pipes and chimneys to see if the flashing or seal around them is damaged as well.
-
Attic
Go inside your house and see if your attic is moist and if the light is able to enter it through the roof. Also, inspect the walls and rafters for any sign of moisture, mold, mildew and water stains. These indicate concerns that need your immediate attention.
-
Vents
Look at the vents on your roof, under the eaves or in the rafters to see if they allow air to freely circulate inside your attic. Make sure they’re free of anything that might hinder the air to move around.
